Avoid unwanted ingredients from packets and use these homemade spice mixes

I’ve found that homemade spice mixes such as the ones i am about to share with you are a really simple way to be conscious of your health. No anti-caking aids, no ingredients you can’t pronounce, no sky-high sodium. You throw a few ingredients into a jar and shake so it is simple and time effective, it tastes better and you can change it to suit your tastes! It is also great to have these in your cupboard so you know you can knock up a tasty dish quick :)

 

Please note that these are all a base, you can change the amounts according to how much you need and also to your own tastes!


Garam Masala (used in indian dishes)

 

  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

 

 

Fajita Seasoning

 

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 2 teaspoons chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1⁄4teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1⁄4teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1⁄4teaspoon cumin

 

Taco Seasoning

 

  • 2 teaspoons Chili Powder

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Ground Cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon Dried Oregano

  • 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper

 

 

Italian Seasoning

 

  • 1 tablespoon Basil 

  • 1 tablespoon Oregano leaf

  • 1 teaspoon Rosemary

  • 1 teaspoon Thyme 

  • Garlic Powder (optional, especially if you cook with fresh garlic)

 

 

5 Spice (used in some chinese dishes)

 

  • 2 tablespoons Anise Powder

  • 1 tablespoon Ground Pepper

  • 1 tablespoon ground Fennel

  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon ground Cloves

  • 1 tablespoon Himalayan or sea salt
